What do we do on a free call?

Your time is important. And so is solving your training and capacity headaches.

I can help you with them – but it might not be the right time, or we might not be a good fit.

That’s the main thing a free call is to find out – can I help you, and am I the sort of person you want to work with?

Time is important so we’ll keep it tight – 30 minutes or even less if you prefer. The main questions I have for you are about why you think there’s a problem to solve. What’s going on in your work that makes you think you might need a training expert? And what will be better for you if that problem gets solved?

After that part, I’ll share briefly about my approach and my perspectives on solving performance problems. I’ve built dozens of training courses that really work, and helped clients avoid training with resources and references.

The process gets results – but it’s not for everyone.

For example, if you want someone to turn guidelines into a training course, that’s not the kind of work I do – because it doesn’t get impact for you and I don’t believe in taking your money when I know you won’t get benefit from it.

But if you’re thinking along those lines, I’d still love to talk – because I might be able to offer you another approach, that actually solves your problem. There’s a whole world of different training approaches out there, and it’s not your job to know what the options are, and which will work in your situation. But it is mine.

My process is to understand what’s driving you first – what’s working, what you want to be different, and why. With that we can dig into all the factors that are causing that problem to emerge, and how you can fix them. That’s for later, if we work together, though.

For our initial call, once I’ve heard about your situation, and you’ve heard about my process, we’ll discuss whether I can help and whether it’s a good fit. If it is, we’ll talk about next steps, and if it isn’t, then we’ll go our separate ways. And you’ll have spent a productive few minutes reflecting on your big issues and possible fixes.
